Aerial of Atchafalaya

The Atchafalaya River is the largest distributary of the Missisippi River. Although the name Atchafalaya is an Indian term meaning "long river" the Atchafalaya is only 135 miles in length. The Atchafalaya is a braided river with waters flowing out of the main channel and latter rejoining it. This is an aerial view of the main channel taken from a point just north of Morgan City looking to the northwest in the evening.
