My reason for compiling the background information for a study of the Bayou Teche corridior are two-fold. First being actively involved in both a general contracting and an Architectural Firm, I felt it was my responsibility to learn as much as I could about our local architectural history. With each restoration that our firm has completed. My interest in the architectural, history and culture of our region.

Secondly, by developing common links between communitites we create a regional identity, a collective spirit of community. By promoting the entire region we broadcast a clearer picture of the resources, culture, and identity of South Louisiana and the Bayou Teche corridor. It is my hope this grass roots assessment will develop into a full fledged study of the region and hopefully a master plan to assist in the future preservation and promotion.

I am grateful to the many people I met in the various towns and backroads while photographing and reaching the properties.

Thank you,

Freddie DeCourt
